Mahua Moitra
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has expressed concerns regarding the Lok Sabha ethics committee’s powers in examining allegations of alleged criminality in the cash-for-query controversy. She released her response to the committee, emphasizing that parliamentary committees lack criminal jurisdiction and the power to investigate alleged criminality, which should be the responsibility of law enforcement agencies.
Moitra also reiterated her demand to cross-examine businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who alleged that she took questions from him to ask in parliament using her login ID and password, which, if proven, could lead to her suspension from parliament.
In her response, Moitra questioned the absence of a code of conduct for MPs set by the ethics committee, stating that a structured code of conduct is crucial for ensuring an objective and fair approach in handling such cases.

She also urged the committee to maintain objectivity and avoid political partisanship in their proceedings. Moitra is set to appear before the ethics committee, and the committee is expected to provide a report to the Lok Sabha Speaker as soon as possible.
This case stems from a complaint to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, which has led to investigations into the allegations of cash-for-query involving Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani.
