Uncertainty continues over the appointment of Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister as caretaker CM Eknath Shinde expressed his readiness to abide by whatever decision Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes regarding the leadership.
He stated that Shiv Sainiks will support the person elected as Chief Minister by the Mahayuti.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Shinde stated, “I have told the Prime Minister that if there is any problem in forming the government in Maharashtra because of me, then do not bring any doubt in your mind and whatever decision you take, that decision is acceptable to me.”
Shinde is likely to depart for Delhi later on Wednesday, with a meeting scheduled for all Yuti allies with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
“You (PM Modi) are the head of our family. The way people of BJP accept your decision, we will also accept your decision in the same way. I made a phone call to PM Modi and HM Amit Shah yesterday and told them that there will be no problem in forming the government because of me,” Eknath Shinde added.
Always Worked As Worker; Not A Leader Above Others: Eknath Shinde
The former Chief Minister clarified that he never saw himself as a leader above others,
Eknath Shinde asserted, “I have always worked as a worker. I never considered myself a Chief Minister. CM means Common Man, I worked by considering this. We should work for people. I have seen the pain of citizens, how they ran their households.”
“Whoever is elected as the CM by Mahayuti, Shiv Sainiks will support him,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis also headed to Delhi to meet with BJP leadership to resolve the ongoing leadership crisis.
He told reporters that they would announce the decision on the new Chief Minister soon.
While speaking to the media, Fadnavis stated, “The answer to this will be given soon. All senior members of the three parties of Mahayuti are taking a decision on this together.”
Fadnavis stated that they would first decide on the Chief Minister, and then make decisions about the other ministerial appointments.
The BJP emerged as the largest party, winning 132 out of 280 seats in the Maharashtra assembly, while its allies – the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde and the NCP led by Ajit Pawar – secured 57 and 41 seats, respectively.
The Election Commission held the Maharashtra assembly elections on 20 November and declared the results on 23 November.
