Ahead of the Maha Kumbh 2025, the ghats of Prayagraj are likely to shine in a completely new avatar, with the Yogi government undertaking their restoration and beautification, following the model of Varanasi’s Baba Vishwanath temple city.
As part of this initiative, seven iconic ghats along the Ganges and Yamuna rivers are being given a fresh new look, ensuring an enhanced experience for visitors during the grand religious event.
The renovation work is now nearing completion, with a focus on both the convenience and aesthetics of the ghats, allowing pilgrims and tourists to fully enjoy their time in the city.
Over Rs 11 Crore Invested In Revitalization
During the Maha Kumbh, the ghats on the Ganges and Yamuna serve as the focal point for millions of devotees and tourists. Devotees take holy dips in the sacred waters at these ghats, making their upkeep and beautification a priority.
In this context, the Yogi government is investing over Rs 11 crore to renovate and modernize these crucial sites.
The Construction and Design Division of the Jal Nigam is renovating these seven ghats. Project manager Rohit Kumar Rana confirmed that the work is progressing rapidly and will be completed soon.
Seven Ghats Undergoing Transformation
The seven ghats transforming are Balua Ghat, Kalighat, Rasulabad Ghat, Chatnagar Ghat (Jhunsi), Nageshwar Ghat (Jhunsi), Mauj Giri Ghat, and Purana Arail Ghat.
Renovation progress on these ghats varies, with most projects nearing completion:

The Yogi government plans to finish all beautification and facility improvements by November 30, ensuring the ghats are ready for the influx of devotees and tourists during the Maha Kumbh.
Improved Facilities For Pilgrims & Tourists
The main goal of the Maha Kumbh administration is to provide top-quality facilities for visitors, and modernizing the ghats is key to achieving this.
The officials are enhancing the aesthetics and developing green areas around the ghats to maintain cleanliness and create a pleasant environment.
They are introducing new amenities, such as canopies for shade, high-mast lights for better illumination, and drinking water stations.
Additionally, they are also installing RO water systems to provide clean drinking water for pilgrims.
The officials are also setting up mobile toilets and changing rooms for greater convenience, while placing benches at strategic spots for visitors to sit and enjoy the river view.
The Yogi government’s efforts to revamp the ghats will not only improve the infrastructure but also create a more comfortable and beautiful environment for the massive crowds expected to converge in Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh 2025.
