Lok Sabha Elections 2024: DMK And Congress To Hold Discussion On Seat Sharing In Tamil Nadu Today

The first round of discussions on seat sharing between the DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu is scheduled to start on Wednesday in the view of upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Mukul Wasnik, Congress leader and National Alliance Committee (NAC) chairperson is reportedly scheduled to hold discussions with Tamil Nadu officials.

Later, today at Chennai’s Anna Arivalayam, senior Congress leaders Salman Khurshid and Ajoy Kumar (the All India Congress Committee’s representative for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry) will also negotiate with the DMK seat-sharing committee.

The Congress party expects to win the same number of seats as they did in the 2019 elections, according to sources.

Notably, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) campaigned for 20 seats and won every one of them in the 2019 general elections, while the Congress ran for 10 seats and won nine of them.

With 38 of the 39 seats, the coalition led by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won easily.

Concerns have been raised over the INDIA alliance’s seat distribution because the alliance’s three main parties—Shiv Sena (UBT), Trinamool Congress (TMC), and Janata Dal-United (JDU)—have been quite rigid in their demands for a specific number of seats in their respective states.
