Khaps And Farmers In Haryana Block Rohtak-Delhi NH In Jhajjar For Two Hours

In Jhajjar district, farmers and Khap members blocked the Rohtak-Delhi National Highway for about two hours as part of a “Haryana Bandh” called in support of farmers, wrestlers, and other protestors.

Senior Bhumi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti leader Ramesh Dalal guided the protesters who camped out on NH-9 in Bahadurgarh, causing a jam of moving vehicles.

After more than two hours, the blockade was lifted after the protesters were given the assurance that their demands would be discussed with the relevant authorities, according to officials.

The police dispersed some protesters who attempted to squat on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) motorway.

Normal life continued unaffected and the strike call had no effect in any other areas of Haryana.

Dalal told reporters there that they have a list of 25 demands, including loan forgiveness for farmers, a legal guarantee of the Minimum Support Price, and increased compensation for land acquisition.

Wrestlers are protesting the resignation of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the head of the Indian Wrestling Federation. He claimed that Jhajjar’s deputy commissioner, Shakti Singh, gave them the assurance that the government would meet with them to discuss their demands within the next three days, some of which the Haryana government could meet.

Their demands, according to Dalal, also include the resignation of Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh, who has been charged with sexual harassment, and turning over to the Army the building of the SYL canal.

In light of the Bandh call, more police officers were stationed in Bahadurgarh and the nearby town of Rohtak.

A few days ago, after a meeting was called by some Khaps supported by farmer organisations at the Mandothi toll plaza in Jhajjar, the strike call was issued in support of the demands.

The Bhumi Bachao Sangharsh Samiti is a group that defends farmers’ rights to their land.
