Kejriwal Declares AAP-BJP Face-Off In Delhi Polls; Rules Out INDIA Alliance Factor

On Thursday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal stated that the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections would be a direct contest between AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dismissing the role of the INDIA alliance in the state polls.

At a press conference, Kejriwal said, “Delhi assembly election is between AAP and the BJP. It is not the election of the INDIA alliance. I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to all those parties for supporting us. Mamata Banerjee is supporting us. Akhilesh Yadav is supporting us. I have learnt through media that the (Uddhav) Thackeray ji’s party is supporting us.”

Congress Hits Back At AAP

The Congress, engaged in a direct contest with AAP and BJP in Delhi, has accused Kejriwal and AAP of consistently working against the Congress.

Sandeep Dikshit, Congress candidate from the New Delhi constituency remarked, “Arvind Kejriwal may say anything but Aam Aadmi Party is the party in Delhi which defamed Congress. I don’t remember him saying even a single word against BJP in 2012-13. AAP’s method is that in all the elections they have gone only and only to defeat Congress. If you talk to any common man outside Delhi, he will also tell you that AAP contests only to defeat Congress. If you have so much aversion towards BJP and RSS, then why did you write a letter to RSS? Congress has never written such letters.”

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal announced plans to discuss the alleged large-scale fraud in the New Delhi Assembly constituency’s electoral roll with the Chief Election Commissioner at a meeting scheduled for 3 PM today.

Addressing the allegation of electoral roll fraud during a press conference, Kejriwal asserted, “Today at 3 pm we have a meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner. In this meeting, we will raise all these issues.”

Delhi Assembly Election Timeline

The Delhi Assembly elections will take place on 5 February, with vote counting likely for 8 February.

The last date for nomination filings is 17 January, with the scrutiny of nominations set for 18 January, and the last date for withdrawal is 20 January.

The Congress, after ruling Delhi for 15 years, faced defeats in the last two assembly elections, failing to secure any seats. In contrast, the AAP won a sweeping victory in the 2020 elections, claiming 62 of 70 seats, while the BJP managed only eight.
