On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She accused the party of lacking a clear agenda for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The Delhi CM claimed that the BJP’s only strategy was to launch personal attacks on AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Additionally, CM Atishi stated that the BJP has no chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Delhi Assembly election.
Addressing the media after inaugurating the AAP’s election office in Govindpuri, CM Atishi stated, “This ‘galli-galoch’ party doesn’t have any agenda, narrative or CM face for Delhi. They have only one work: to hurl abuses at Arvind Kejriwal. I think it will be very easy for the people of Delhi to make a decision.”
Meanwhile, Kejriwal clarified that the upcoming election is a direct contest between the AAP and BJP, not the INDIA alliance.
“Delhi assembly election is between AAP and the BJP. It is not the election of the INDIA alliance. I wholeheartedly express my gratitude to all those parties for supporting us. Mamata Banerjee is supporting us. Akhilesh Yadav is supporting us. I have learnt through media that the (Uddhav) Thackeray ji’s party is supporting us,” said the AAP National Convenor.
The Congress, in direct competition with the AAP and BJP in Delhi, has responded to Kejriwal, accusing the AAP of consistently working to defeat the Congress.
As reported by ANI, Sandeep Dikshit, Congress candidate from the New Delhi constituency stated, “Arvind Kejriwal may say anything but Aam Aadmi Party is the party in Delhi which defamed Congress. I don’t remember him saying even a single word against BJP in 2012-13. AAP’s method is that in all the elections they have gone only and only to defeat Congress. If you talk to any common man outside Delhi, he will also tell you that AAP contests only to defeat Congress. If you have so much aversion towards BJP and RSS, then why did you write a letter to RSS? Congress has never written such letters.”
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place on 5 February, with vote counting likely for 8 February.
The last date for nomination filings is 17 January, with the scrutiny of nominations set for 18 January, and the last date for withdrawal is 20 January.
The AAP, which secured a decisive victory in 2020, remains a dominant force in Delhi, while Congress has seen a decline in its presence, failing to win any seats in the last two elections.
