The Karnataka High Court will hear Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s writ petition on Thursday, challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s recent order that sanctions an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
Previously, Siddaramaiah had secured temporary relief from the court, which had instructed the lower court to refrain from taking any action until August 29. The Chief Minister’s legal team, led by senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, argues that the Governor’s sanction is unconstitutional and politically motivated.

Three petitioners involved in the MUDA case—T.J. Abraham, Snehamayi Krishna, and S.P. Pradeep Kumar—are expected to present the Governor’s consent letter for prosecution to the lower court and request the filing of an FIR against Siddaramaiah. Additionally, two petitioners have submitted private complaints against the Chief Minister.
Siddaramaiah’s Confidence In Judiciary
The Governor’s consent for prosecution issue on August 17. Following Siddaramaiah’s challenge, the High Court convened on August 19 to address the matter. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the judiciary, stating, “As a law-abiding citizen with faith in the Constitution and the judiciary’s power to uphold justice and fairness, I approached the Hon’ble High Court of Karnataka against the illegal and politically motivated decision of the Governor of Karnataka to permit an inquiry and prosecution based on trumped-up allegations against me. I am pleased that the Hon’ble High Court heard the matter and passed interim orders directing the concerned court to defer the proceedings and further instructing that no precipitative action be taken pursuant to the impugned sanction.”
In response, the petitioners remain optimistic about their case, asserting that the High Court’s interim relief will not alter the course of their pursuit for justice.
In a related development, the Congress party has announced a “Raj Bhavan Chalo” protest set for August 31, condemning the Governor’s decision and calling for the sanction of prosecution in cases involving BJP leaders. The Congress also plans to appeal to the President if the court’s ruling is unfavorable to Siddaramaiah.
Meanwhile, the BJP has vowed to intensify efforts until Siddaramaiah resigns from his position, underscoring the ongoing political tension surrounding the case.
