Kamla Pasand Owner’s Daughter-In-Law, Found Dead; Family Alleges Harassment And Assault

In a disturbing development, authorities found Deepti Chaurasia, daughter-in-law of Kamla Pasand owner Kamal Kishore Chaurasia, hanging on Tuesday evening in Delhi.

News agency ANI reported that her family discovered the 40-year-old dead under circumstances that have raised serious concerns. Authorities took her body to Safdarjung Hospital the same night, where doctors are yet to conduct the postmortem examination.

Deepti’s brother, Rishabh, has levelled shocking allegations against her husband, Harpreet Chaurasia and mother-in-law, claiming that both physically assaulted her. Deepti repeatedly confided in him about being tortured and claimed that her husband maintained multiple extramarital affairs, he told reporters.

He stated, “Her mother-in-law and husband used to beat her. Harpreet had affairs. When we found out, we brought her home, but her mother-in-law took her back. My sister used to call and say she was being tortured.”

Rishabh emphasised that he did not know whether Deepti died by suicide or was murdered. He stressed that he wanted justice for his sister.

Possible Case of Abetment to Suicide

A diary recovered from the scene reportedly mentions Deepti’s ongoing disputes with Harpreet, whom she married in 2010. The couple has a 14-year-old son. Early investigations suggest that Deepti’s distress may have stemmed from Harpreet’s alleged second marriage to a South Indian actress, according to media reports.

Deepti’s family is now preparing to file a complaint alleging abetment to suicide. It is a criminal offence under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police officials have confirmed that details remain limited as the investigation progresses. A team of doctors will conduct the postmortem to help ascertain the exact cause of death. Further action will depend on forensic findings and statements recorded from the family and other witnesses.

The KP Group and Kamla Kant & Company currently own Kamla Pasand, a well-known pan masala and gutka brand. Founded by Kamala Kant Chaurasia and Kamal Kishore Chaurasia, the company supplies products across India and generates billions in annual turnover.

The case continues to draw public attention due to the high-profile nature of the family and the grave allegations involved. Deepti’s loved ones are seeking a thorough and impartial investigation.
