Language, Culture and Literature Define India’s Identity: IAS Rashmi Singh
Addressing the audience on Constitution Day, IAS Dr Rashmi Singh stressed that the essence of a progressive India lies not solely in infrastructural development but in the depth of its language, culture and literature.
She noted that as India advances in technology, education, start-ups and space science, the nation’s cultural roots remain anchored in its linguistic diversity. “A country’s true identity is shaped by its language, culture and literature,” she said, urging citizens to take pride in India’s linguistic heritage, including Urdu.
Dr Singh described Urdu as a language that symbolises respect, love and harmony, one that builds bridges rather than walls. She emphasised its role in strengthening India’s social fabric by promoting inclusivity and shared values.
Highlighting the opportunities emerging in the digital age, Dr Singh said that contemporary media ecosystems allow Indian languages to reach global audiences more efficiently than ever before. She encouraged young journalists and content creators to use technology to amplify the beauty and relevance of Urdu in modern storytelling.
The conclave concluded with an affirmation that strengthening Urdu and other Indian languages is not just a cultural responsibility but a national priority as India shapes its global identity.
