A three-member judicial commission has officially started investigating the tragic stampede that occurred during the Mauni Amavasya ritual at the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh.
The commission members arrived at their office in Janpath, Lucknow, on Thursday, to begin their work.
Chairman of the commission, Justice (Retd) Harsh Kumar, stated, “Since the investigation is a priority, we have taken charge within hours of the announcement.”
He further added, “Although we have a month to complete the probe, we will make every effort to conclude it as quickly as possible.”
Justice Kumar also confirmed that the commission will soon visit Prayagraj to assess the situation on the ground.

The stampede, which occurred on Wednesday during the Mauni Amavasya bathing ritual, led to the deaths of 30 people and left 60 others injured.
In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formed the three-member commission to investigate the incident.
The panel is headed by retired Justice Harsh Kumar of the Allahabad High Court, with retired IAS officer DK Singh and retired IPS officer VK Gupta as members.
The commission’s task is to investigate the causes and circumstances surrounding the stampede and provide recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The commission has one month to submit its report.
