On the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya, the largest Amrit Snan festival of Maha Kumbh, more than 8 crore devotees took part in the sacred ritual at Triveni.
The massive influx of pilgrims in the days leading up to the event prompted the Prayagraj Railway Division to implement extensive measures to ensure their safe and smooth travel.
To manage the overwhelming number of devotees, the railway administration operated over 360 trains, including a record 222 Mela Special trains, which ran throughout the day on Wednesday from all railway stations across Prayagraj.
Special arrangements were made to streamline the travel experience for pilgrims, including efficient ticket distribution, designated shelter and holding areas, and coordination with GRP and civil police for the smooth entry and exit of passengers.
Prayagraj Railway Administration Deploys 222 Mela Special Trains For Devotees
Railway officials deployed a total of 222 Mela Special trains to transport devotees to their destinations. In addition to regular services, the Prayagraj Railway Administration ensured optimal coverage by running:
- 104 Mela Special trains from Prayagraj Junction (NCR)
- 23 from Chheoki, 17 from Naini, and 13 from Subedarganj
- 23 special trains from NR’s Prayag station, 5 from Phaphamau, 9 from Rambagh (NER), and 28 from Jhunsi
- 5 extended trains, 5 ring rails, 3 long-distance trains, and 69 non-timetable trains from NCR stations
As the crowd surged around 8 AM, the Khusro Bagh Holding Area activated promptly. Civil police helped guide devotees from the holding area to Prayagraj station in an orderly manner, ensuring smooth boarding of trains.
NCR General Manager Upendra Joshi closely oversaw the operations from the war room, while Divisional Railway Manager Himanshu Badoni coordinated from the control room.
These strategic measures taken by the Prayagraj Railway Administration ensured a well-organized and safe travel experience for millions of devotees attending the sacred Amrit Snan festival.
