JP Nadda, Jitendra Singh Meet Sonam Wangchuk At Medanta Hospital

Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met innovator and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after doctors shifted him from Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital for specialised treatment.

Doctors admitted Wangchuk to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) under the care of Dr Sushila Kataria after transferring him to Medanta under tight security in compliance with a Delhi High Court order.

The Ministers met Wangchuk as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 24th day. He vowed to continue his fast until Parliament allows protesting student leaders to meet MPs or parliamentarians visit him at the hospital.

In a handwritten note issued from Safdarjung Hospital, Sonam Wangchuk reiterated that he would not end his fast until meaningful dialogue with lawmakers took place.

Earlier on Tuesday, Wangchuk’s wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, said he had decided to continue the hunger strike until Parliament took cognisance of the Delhi Police’s alleged action against protesters during the march.

Angmo alleged that police used baton charges and tear gas against students, prompting Wangchuk to continue his fast until Parliament addressed their demands.

Responding to allegations of attacks on police, Gitanjali J Angmo claimed officers tried to detain activist Abhijit during the protest, forcing demonstrators to form a human chain. She added that anyone in such a situation would naturally defend themselves.

Wangchuk’s ongoing fast has drawn national attention, with his supporters continuing to demand parliamentary discussion on the protesters’ concerns and the alleged police action during the demonstration.
