Sonam Wangchuk

Wangchuk accused the central government of failing to arrange a promised meeting. He added that he sought a venue for a peaceful hunger strike but was denied. Ultimately, he had no option but to continue the strike at Ladakh Bhawan

The Delhi Police refused Wangchuk’s request for the hunger strike, citing issues with the application. According to police, the petition did not specify the start or end dates of the protest. Despite this, Wangchuk has begun his hunger strike at Ladakh Bhawan

During the hearing, the court questioned how Wangchuk could be in custody, referencing his recent media interview

Wangchuk aimed to protest at Mahatma Gandhi's Samadhi at Rajghat in Delhi. In response to the situation, Delhi Police invoked Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code for six days, enforcing restrictions on public gatherings

One of their key demands is for Ladakh to be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, granting law-making powers to the local population to protect their land and cultural identity.

He stressed the significance of safeguarding the fragile environment of the region and preserving the indigenous character of its population.
