The Jharkhand High Court has ordered the Union and state governments to respond to a petition seeking to prohibit the operation of industrial units within 10 kilometres of eco-sensitive zones in the state.
Petitioner Uma Shankar Singh claimed in his Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that industrial units operating near eco-sensitive zones were harming flora and fauna.

He claimed that mining activities were unchecked, forcing wild animals to enter human settlements.
According to Singh, industrial units and mining in forest areas can only be permitted with the National Board of Wildlife approval.
On April 15, 2023, the case will be heard again.
