On Tuesday, the Election Commission has officially announced the start of the nomination process for the second phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, which encompasses 38 constituencies. Polling for this crucial phase is likely to take place on 20 November.
Candidates interested in contesting the elections have until 29 October to submit their nomination papers, with scrutiny of these documents scheduled for 30 October.
Furthermore, candidates have until 1 November to withdraw their nominations if they choose to do so.
This announcement follows the first phase of polling, which will cover 43 seats on 13 November.
In the initial phase, candidates must file their nominations by 25 October, undergo scrutiny on 28 October, and withdraw by the 30 October deadline.
As of now, over 30 candidates have already registered for the first phase, utilizing both online and offline submission methods.
The constituencies included in the second phase of voting are spread across various regions and include key areas such as Rajmahal, Borio, and Jamtara.
A comprehensive list of all constituencies slated for this phase includes Dumka, Godda, and Dhanbad, among others.
Approximately 2.6 crore voters will have the opportunity to make their voices heard, with the Election Commission establishing 29,562 polling stations throughout the state.
Of these, 5,042 booths are located in urban areas, averaging around 881 voters per booth.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the India Bloc primarily define the electoral landscape.
The NDA has announced candidates for 77 out of the total 81 seats, while the Congress party, part of the India Bloc, has revealed its candidates for 21 constituencies.
JMM’s Mithilesh Thakur, Sanjeev Sardar File Nominations
Although the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) have not yet officially declared their candidates, some notable names have emerged from the JMM, including Mithilesh Thakur from Garhwa and Sanjeev Sardar from Potka, who have already filed their nominations.
The counting of votes for both phases is for 23 November, marking a pivotal moment in the political landscape of Jharkhand as the electorate prepares to make crucial decisions in this assembly election.
