India’s building materials sector is witnessing robust growth, with hiring increasing by 30% between January 2023 and January 2025, according to a new report by staffing firm Ciel HR Services.
Rapid urbanization, infrastructure development, and rising investments in sustainable, technology-driven construction practices have fueled the surge.
The report, titled Building Materials Sector – Talent Trends and Insights, is based on data from 105 building material companies and over 2,700 job postings across various platforms.
Tech & Sustainability Driving Demand
“With rising disposable incomes and growing urbanization, we anticipate significant expansion in the construction and real estate sectors, which will directly benefit the building materials industry,” said Aditya Narayan Mishra, MD and CEO of Ciel HR Services.
Technological advancements are reshaping the industry landscape.
The report highlights a growing demand for professionals with expertise in 3D printing, AI, IoT, and green certifications.
Roles related to sustainability and advanced manufacturing are in high demand, indicating a shift toward eco-conscious construction and smart city development.
Key Roles In Demand
Among the most sought-after roles are Plant Manager, Production Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Sales Manager, R&D Engineer, Structural Engineer, and Environment & Sustainability Specialist.
These positions reflect the industry’s focus on both operational efficiency and environmental compliance.
Despite positive hiring trends, the sector continues to struggle with gender imbalance.
Women account for just 12% of the workforce, making it one of the lowest among major Indian industries.
Geographically, hiring in the building materials sector is still heavily concentrated in India’s metro regions.
Tier I cities alone account for 81% of job postings, with Hyderabad (14%), Bengaluru (13%), Delhi/NCR (12%), Chennai (8%), Ahmedabad (7%), and Pune (7%) emerging as the top destinations for talent.
This urban focus aligns with the Indian government’s ongoing initiatives to promote smart cities, green construction, and large-scale infrastructure development.
As these projects gather momentum, metro areas are expected to remain pivotal employment hubs in the foreseeable future.
Looking ahead, the report emphasizes the importance of maintaining sustainable growth while also promoting inclusive hiring practices.
