High Court Seeks Response From Delhi Government On Issue Of Nodal Officers And Mock Drills In Bomb Threat Case

Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Delhi Government and Delhi Police on the issue of nodal officers and mock drills in the case of spreading rumors of bomb in Delhi schools and asked them to respond through an affidavit within 10 days.

The court has also asked the Delhi government and Delhi Police how many mock drills were conducted in schools to ensure that children come out without any panic. The court has asked how many schools in Delhi have received bomb threats and what action has been taken by the nodal officers.

Recently, the case of bomb threat and panic by sending emails to more than 100 schools of Delhi has reached the Delhi High Court. The court has also asked Delhi Police to explain in its reply the action taken to investigate fake calls received by schools.

The court will hear the matter next on May 16. This petition was filed by lawyer Arpit Bhargava. In the last hearing, the Delhi government had told the court that it has adopted a policy of not being negligent regarding security in schools.

Its officials are making best efforts to ensure effective implementation of guidelines to deal with disasters including bomb threats. The DOE had told the court that it has issued several instructions to its institutions to enhance their security measures. It also includes a circular on April 16 precautionary measures and the role of school authorities in bomb threat cases.

DOE has given this reply on the PIL filed regarding bomb threats in schools. The status report filed said that its officials are making their best efforts to ensure effective implementation of the guidelines and circulars related to dealing with any kind of disaster including such bomb threats.

According to the report, the bomb threat is a law and order issue and particularly concerns the police and internal security agencies. The department issued a specific circular on April 16 on the issue of dealing with bomb threats to schools. The DOE had said that it had called an emergency meeting last month to discuss the safety plan for students and staff of the schools.
