Heavy rain disrupts life in Tamil Nadu, schools closed in 5 districts after landslide

Rain has disrupted daily life in Tamil Nadu. On Thursday morning, images from the Kunjappa-Panai area showed a blocked road in Coimbatore due to a landslide. For one day, schools have been closed in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Madurai, Theni, Dinidigul, and several taluks in the Nilgiris.

On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted sporadic heavy rainfall over Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The Comorin region is under a cyclonic circulation, as per a report in The Hindu. The South Peninsula is experiencing an inflow of easterly to north-easterly winds and a low-pressure area has developed over the East and Central Arabian Sea.

For the next three days, the IMD predicted light to moderate to fairly widespread rain throughout the area.

The Northeast monsoon is intensifying in Tamil Nadu over the next two days, and the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said that widespread rainfall is expected in most of the districts, according to local reports. According to the meteorological department, cyclonic circulation indicates a high probability of rain in 14 districts of Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours.

The Nilgiri, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts, Erode, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Salem, and Dharmapuri districts are all expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain in one or two locations, according to IMD.
