Head Of QS University Rankings Praises Indian Higher Education, Says, ‘Future Is Bright’

Nunzio Quacquarelli, founder of London-based education institute QS Quacquarelli Symonds, has written a LinkedIn post about higher education in India. In his post he has praised the performance of Indian universities in G20 countries. Let us tell you that on April 10, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a higher education analysis company, released the ranking of the world’s top educational institutions.

According to the QS University Rankings, the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad) is among the top 25 institutes in the world in the business and management studies category, while IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Calcutta are among the top 50 institutes whereas Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is the highest ranked university in India. This university is ranked 20th globally in the category of development studies. Apart from this, Savita Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai is ranked 24th globally in the dental studies category. Quacquarelli has said these things regarding the performance of Indian universities in the QS World University Rankings.

Highest performance among G20 countries

Quacquarelli wrote in a LinkedIn post that over the next few weeks, I am going to share some results of the latest QS World University Rankings by subject, which were published on April 10, starting with the Indian higher education system. This year, Indian universities had the highest performance improvement (a significant 14% year-on-year improvement in their average ranking) among all G20 countries. In terms of research output, India has become one of the fastest expanding research centers in the world.

Big progress in the field of research

According to QS, India is one of the fastest expanding research centers in the world. Regarding this, Quacquarelli wrote that from 2017 to 2022, its research output increased by an impressive 54%, making it the fourth largest research producer in the world. India’s progress on the global stage has undoubtedly been aided by visionary policies such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. I had the honor of meeting the Prime Minister to discuss global higher education trends.

On meeting PM Modi, Quacquarelli wrote that during our exclusive conversation, it was clear that PM Modi has a passionate commitment to revolutionizing Indian education, which is reflected in the ambitious goals of the NEP. Our latest subject rankings show that this goal is beginning to reflect in the significant presence and improved performance of Indian universities. Our analysis included more than 1,500 universities in 96 countries, demonstrating excellence across 55 academic subjects and five faculty areas.

Regarding QS subject ranking, Quacquarelli wrote that India is now in the leading position in 44 out of 55 QS subject rankings. Exceptional performance was noted in computer science, chemistry, biological sciences, business studies and physics, among others. Institutes of Eminence (IoE) contributed 47 out of 69 Indian university positions in the top 100 in any subject ranking. Across Asia, India is now second only to China in QS subject rankings. Congratulations to all the universities, their administrators, faculty members and students who have worked tirelessly to achieve these remarkable results. The future of Indian higher education is bright, and it is a privilege to see this change unfold.
