In 2020 a tragic crime happened in Hathras, a 19-year-old girl was brutally raped who later succumbed to her injuries as her tongue was chopped after sexual assault. Victim’s family requested the Supreme Court for relocation outside UP basically Delhi following most of the accused being acquitted of all charges in the case.
Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra ordered center to file their resposne to the petition within weeks. The victim’s family counsel Sanjay Hedge said following accused’s acquittal of all the charges who belonged to upper caste, victim’s family fear a backlash from them as they belonged to schedule caste.
The bench was shocked as Allahabad High Court earlier ordered to relocate the victim’s family outside Hathras and provide job to her family members, but no step has been taken by the government yet. On March 27, bench headed by D Y Chandrachud slammed the state government for challenging High Court’s order and ordered providing victim’s family with job and relocate her family.
In 2020, a 19-year-old girl was gang raped brutally, her bones were fractured following the sexual harassment. The accused chopped off her tongue to eliminate any evidence leading to their arrest. She died on 29 September 2020 after fighting for life for around 2 weeks. The police cremated her body without family at midnight covertly.
