Gujarat Reports 167 New Covid-19 Cases As Virus Slowly Resurges Across India

Gujarat has recorded 167 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, signalling a notable rise as the virus gradually makes a comeback across India.

The state’s active caseload has climbed to 615, contributing to the national total of 4,866 active cases.

Across the country, health officials have reported 564 new infections and seven Covid-related deaths in the same period, underscoring the need for increased caution.

In Gujarat, 15 patients are currently hospitalised, while 600 remain under home quarantine.

Encouragingly, no deaths have been reported in the state during the last 24 hours, and 60 patients have recovered and been discharged.

Vadodara Emerges As Localised Hotspot

Vadodara has emerged as a key hotspot, with six new Covid-19 cases identified across various neighbourhoods during routine surveillance carried out by the municipal corporation.

At the national level, Delhi reported two Covid-19 fatalities—a five-month-old girl suffering from pneumonia and an 87-year-old man with existing heart and kidney conditions.

These deaths highlight the ongoing risk to vulnerable populations.

Authorities Urge Renewed Safety Measures

Health authorities nationwide are urging citizens to resume basic safety protocols such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and social distancing as India’s Covid-19 curve shows signs of resurgence.

Officials are closely monitoring regional trends to respond effectively to changes in the virus’s spread.

In response to the rising cases, the Gujarat government has introduced several measures to manage the situation efficiently.

The state prioritises home-based care for patients with mild symptoms, providing teleconsultations and distributing essential medication kits.

Meanwhile, authorities have instructed civil hospitals and district health centres to maintain readiness, ensuring oxygen beds and intensive care units are available for patients with comorbidities.

Healthcare facilities are assessing their infrastructure to prepare for any sudden surge in hospital admissions.

Global Resurgence And WHO Data

Covid-19 continues to pose a global challenge as cases rise in multiple regions.

The World Health Organisation reports that between 21 April and 18 May 2025, health authorities confirmed over 150,000 new cases across 90 countries, marking a significant increase compared to the previous 28-day period.

Test positivity rates have climbed to 11 per cent in 73 countries, matching peaks last seen in July 2024.

Emerging variants such as NB.1.8.1 are driving a pronounced surge in the Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia, and Western Pacific regions.

As Covid-19 cases gradually increase both nationally and globally, health authorities remain vigilant.

They continue to emphasise the importance of precautionary measures and preparedness to mitigate the impact of this ongoing public health challenge.
