'Government Of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023’ Passed In Lok Sabha

The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023 were approved by the Lok Sabha on Monday.

Nityanand Rai, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, has submitted laws aimed at allocating 33 percent of the seats in the legislative assemblies of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Puducherry to women.

Women’s Reservation Bill

This action comes after the Parliament passed laws to impose reservation policies in the J&K Union Territory’s legislative assembly, job sector, and professional institutes.

Notably, the Women’s Reservation Bill, which seeks to reserve one-third of the seats in both Parliament and State legislative assemblies for women, was successfully enacted by the parliament on September 21, during the special session.

The Women’s Reservation Bill obtained presidential assent on September 28, just one week after it was passed, and it became a law.
