A segment of the Gokulpuri Metro Station on the Pink Line in northeast Delhi collapsed on Thursday morning, resulting in injuries to three individuals, with one in critical condition, as per police reports. The incident occurred around 11 am when a boundary wall on the eastern side of the elevated platform and a portion of a slab collapsed onto the road below, according to a police spokesperson. A section of the slab remains hanging, and three to four two-wheelers parked below were buried under the debris.
According to a police officer, the critically injured person was riding a scooter at the time of the incident. Immediate response teams, including personnel from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and local authorities, are actively addressing the situation. A senior DMRC official stated, “We are looking into the matter, and all necessary steps are being taken,” while further details are awaited.
Numerous videos captured by bystanders on their mobile phones circulated on social media, depicting authorities clearing the rubble from the affected area and addressing the precarious situation of a partially hanging ledge. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received the collapse report at 11:10 am and dispatched four fire tenders promptly to the scene. Police, along with assistance from locals, commenced rescue operations to extricate individuals trapped beneath the debris. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with all injured individuals admitted to GTB Hospital for treatment, as per police sources. Authorities are working to identify the injured.
Police have indicated that a case will be registered under relevant sections of the law regarding the incident. The situation is evolving, with authorities focused on rescue and recovery operations to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the collapse at the Gokulpuri Metro Station.
