Rouse Avenue Court has acquitted former Delhi government minister Sandeep Kumar in a 2016 rape and corruption case. Kumar, who previously served as the Minister for Women and Child Development, Social Welfare, and SC-ST Department, faced charges of rape and corruption. The court had framed charges under various sections, including rape with intoxicants, Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and Section 66 of the IT Act. The FIR was registered in 2016.
Allegations and Political Fallout
The case alleged that Kumar raped a woman who had visited his home regarding a ration card issue. It was claimed that a video of the incident was made and circulated. The Delhi Police filed an FIR on 3 September 2016, based on the accuser’s statement. She alleged that Kumar drugged her cold drink and raped her.
The BJP used the case to criticize the AAP government, which led to Kumar’s removal from his ministerial position.
