Father Rapes Minor, Gujarat HC Orders Medical Examination Over Pregnancy Termination Plea

A hospital in Vadodra was issued an order by the Gujarat High Court to medically examine a 12-year-old girl who was allegedly raped by her father on a plea seeking her 28 week pregnancy termination.

A few days after victim’s father was arrested by the Dediapada police in the state’s Narmada district, her mother reached the court seeking the termination of minor’s pregnancy.

As per the court’s order medical superintendent and medical officer of Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad General Hospital in Vadodara to conduct the victim’s medical examination on Tuesday under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act and submit report on Wednesday.

The inspector of Dediapada police station has also been directed by the court to visit the hospital and “take care of the situation in a very proper manner”.  An urgent hearing was sought in the matter by the petitioner’s lawyer sumbitting that the girl was allegedly raped by her father and on the mother’s complaint an FIR was lodged by the police on September 2.
