Senior Samajwadi leader Revati Raman detained & released, supporters cry foul

Prayagraj: There was uproar in Kareli on Saturday when the alliance candidate’s father and former MP Revati Raman Singh reached outside the polling booth. A case was registered on charges of disrupting government work, violating the code of conduct and influencing elections and he along with the driver was taken into custody. Then after necessary action he was released. The driver and 50 unknown supporters have also been made accused in the case. On the other hand, the former MP accused the police of indecency.
The former MP and the father of Ujjwal Raman Singh, the alliance candidate from Prayagraj Lok Sabha seat suddenly reached the Revenue Training Polling Center located on 60 Feet Road in Kareli around 4 pm on Saturday evening.

As soon as he arrived, a crowd of supporters gathered there. He also had an altercation with ACP Kareli Pushkar Verma, who reached the spot after getting the information. After this he was brought to the police station and a case was registered. Later, when candidate Ujjwal Raman arrived, he was released after necessary action. On the other hand, KK Srivastava, who is looking after the election work at SP state office in Lucknow, said that he has spoken to the Chief Electoral Officer of the state regarding the incident.
This is the allegation of the police; the report was registered on the complaint of Inspector Manish Kumar Rai of Kareli police station. It was told that during the voting, information was received that Kunwar Revati Raman Singh had come in a vehicle with a gunner and had stopped in front of the polling station Lekhpal Training Centre.

He was inspiring supporters to vote in favour of their candidate. On reaching the spot, we saw that there was a huge crowd there. Revathi Raman was sitting in the Fortuner car with driver Chandrashekhar and two gunners.
On asking for the vehicle pass, the driver showed the vehicle pass issued by District Election, Prayagraj dated 07/05/2024 in which permission is mentioned till 05:00 pm on 23.05.2024. Contrary to instructions, the pass was not even pasted on the windshield of the vehicle. There was a SP flag on the front right side of the vehicle and three more flags were found inside.

It is alleged that the supporters started raising slogans of against the police and started talking indecent words about boycotting the elections and not allowing any voter to cast their vote. Even after a lot of persuasion, he did not calm down and started trying to disrupt the government work by attacking the police party along with his supporters.
Meanwhile, Revati Raman Singh alleged that complaint was received about pressurizing the voters. He claimed that voters were not being allowed to cast their votes. “After receiving this complaint, I went to Kareli. The police officer misbehaved there. After this I was asked to go to the police station, on which I went and sat in the police station. In case of indecency, I will also file a complaint with the police,” Revati Raman Singh, former MP remarked.
