Dr Rajeshwar Singh Calls For Green Revolution & Digital Upliftment In Lucknow

Dr Rajeshwar Singh, MLA from Sarojininagar, made a compelling call for environmental action and youth digital empowerment at an environmental symposium organised by Lok Adhikar Manch at National PG College, Lucknow.

Speaking on the topic ‘How Political Will Can Influence Global Environmental Decisions’, Dr Singh highlighted the urgent threats of climate change and presented data-backed solutions for sustainable development.

Dr Singh noted global temperatures have risen 1.5°C since the industrial era, triggering severe environmental consequences worldwide.

He cited floods in the US and India, submergence risk for Tamil Nadu’s Kariyachalli island by 2036, and Tuvalu’s mass displacement.

He noted that one million of Earth’s 8 million species face extinction, signalling a critical moment for global ecological responsibility.

Local impact: Lucknow’s pollution challenge

The MLA voiced deep concern over Lucknow’s hazardous air quality, with AQI levels reaching 250 on 300 days annually.

Citing global data, he said over 2.5 million premature deaths are linked to air pollution each year.

Dr Singh referenced the Chipko, Narmada Bachao, and Fridays for Future movements to highlight citizen-driven environmental efforts.

He called for a mass movement that encourages people to adopt sustainable and responsible lifestyles for environmental preservation.

Dr Singh also introduced the concept of Earth Overshoot Day to stress the urgency of global resource depletion.

He explained that in 1970, Earth’s annual resources lasted until 25 December, showing a more balanced consumption rate.

Today, Earth Overshoot Day falls on 1 August, showing how quickly we now exhaust natural resources each year.

Green commitment: Action on the ground

150 Tarashakti Kendras have empowered women by producing and distributing over 30,000 eco-friendly bags in schools.

The Environment Warriors Campaign has conducted awareness drives in the Terai region, recognised forest watchers and organised debates and quizzes across schools, involving over 1,000 students.

Under PM Modi’s vision and CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, over 200 crore trees have been planted across UP.

Singh emphasised the need to not only plant but also protect forests.

Digital education & AI for the future

Dr Singh also announced the launch of an AI Crash Course at the Ran Bahadur Singh Digital Education and Youth Empowerment Centres in Sarojini Nagar.

These centres are equipping youth with trending digital skills free of cost.

He further declared the establishment of a Digital Library with 10 computers at National PG College to foster e-learning.

Highlighting India’s climate leadership, he referred to PM Modi’s Net Zero pledge at COP26 and India’s current standing as the 4th largest renewable energy producer globally.

In a ceremonial moment, Justice DP Singh presented his authored works Ayodhya Darshan and Ancient Indian Law to Dr Singh, who expressed gratitude and called the books ‘inspirational guides’.

He thanked Anil Singh, President of Lok Adhikar Manch, for organising the event.

Notable attendees included college Principal Prof Devendra Kumar Singh, academic leaders Prof Dhruv Sen Singh, Prof RB Singh, and community figures such as Vivek Tangdi, Jyotsna Singh, and others.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in aligning environmental awareness with technological empowerment for a sustainable future.
