Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate from the Darbhanga Assembly constituency, Rakesh Kumar Mishra, has accused the local police of misbehaviour and bias during election campaigning.
Mishra, a 1986-batch IPS officer who retired as Additional Director General of Police (ADG), began a sit-in protest outside the Nagar police station, demanding the suspension of the Station House Officer (SHO). He declared that he would continue his protest until the authorities take action.
According to Mishra, the incident occurred when one of his supporters photographed a large poster and banner allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct outside a private residence. The house owner, reportedly linked to a rival political faction, allegedly misbehaved with the supporter and issued threats.
Mishra claimed that when he informed the police, SHO Arvind Kumar reached the spot, and Mishra’s team handed over the accused to the police. However, the SHO allegedly released the individual immediately without any action.
Complaint Filed with Election Officer
In a written complaint submitted to the Election Officer, Mishra alleged that the local police were operating under the influence of rival political leaders. He further stated that when he went to record his official statement, the SHO refused to register it and misbehaved with him.
Mishra maintained that such conduct raised serious concerns about the fairness of the upcoming election. “It is impossible to ensure free and impartial voting under this officer’s supervision,” he asserted.
The Jan Suraaj leader accused the SHO of repeatedly misbehaving with him and emphasised that the officer had mistreated him before as well.
As a mark of protest, Mishra sat on a dharna (sit-in) outside the Nagar police station, demanding the immediate suspension of the officer.
He warned that his demonstration would continue until disciplinary action was taken. The situation has drawn public attention ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, highlighting tensions between political parties and law enforcement authorities.
