Embassy Of India Hosts Seminar On Qatar’s Narcotics Laws

Qatar’s Narcotics Laws

The Embassy of India in Qatar, along with the Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), held an online seminar on September 10. The event aimed to raise awareness among the Indian community about Qatar’s strict regulations on narcotics and restricted psychoactive and psychotropic drugs. Attendees included Indian community members, leaders, media representatives, and other stakeholders from both Doha and India.

Officials Emphasize Caution for Travelers

Ambassador of India to Qatar, Mr Vipul, highlighted Qatar’s rules regarding the prohibition of narcotics and restrictions on certain medications. He urged travelers to exercise caution and follow Qatar’s laws carefully. First Secretary Eish Singhal shared case studies where Indian nationals were sentenced for carrying banned substances. In several cases, individuals claimed they unknowingly transported illegal items handed to them by agents before traveling.

ICBF Urges Awareness Campaigns

ICBF President Shanavas Bava encouraged civil society organizations, including those in India, to spread awareness about Qatar’s strict drug laws. He emphasized that both the Indian Embassy and ICBF provide support to imprisoned Indians, including legal counseling and financial assistance in emergencies. The seminar concluded with a call for heightened vigilance among travelers and efforts to educate the public about Qatar’s legal framework concerning drugs.
