The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a revised schedule on Sunday, altering the vote counting date for the legislative assembly elections of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim from June 4 to June 2.

This modification was made in consideration of the impending end of the term for both legislative assemblies on June 2. According to Article 324, Article 172(1) of the Constitution of India, and Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, it is imperative for the ECI to conduct elections before the cessation of their respective terms.
In compliance with this regulation, the election schedule announced on Saturday has been adjusted, with the counting of votes now scheduled for June 2 instead of June 4. It’s important to note that this change applies solely to the counting of votes for the assembly elections; there will be no alteration to the schedule for the parliamentary constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
On Saturday, the ECI announced the eagerly anticipated schedule for the Lok Sabha elections alongside the assembly polls of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
The Lok Sabha elections, comprising 543 parliamentary constituencies, will be conducted in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. Polling for the first phase will take place on April 19, followed by the second phase on April 26, the third phase on May 7, the fourth phase on May 13, the fifth phase on May 20, the sixth phase on May 25, and the final, seventh phase on June 1.

The assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are slated for April 19, coinciding with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh will vote on May 13, and Odisha’s assembly polls will be conducted in four phases: May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.
The results for the Lok Sabha polls, as well as the assemblies of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, will be announced on June 4.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar disclosed that a staggering 96.8 crore voters will be eligible to cast their votes in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The electoral process will entail the deployment of 10.5 lakh polling stations, 1.5 crore polling officials and security personnel, and 55 lakh EVMs.
