Jaipur: In response to rumors that she was passed over for the chief minister position because of her purported falling out with former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Diya Kumari, the newly elected deputy chief minister of Rajasthan, stated on Tuesday that she “didn’t want to comment on such things.” Despite being considered as one of the front-runners for the chief ministerial position, the MP-turned-MLA claimed to have received Vasundhara Raje’s “blessings.”
Raje and Kumari are both descended from former Rajasthani royal dynasties. After winning her first assembly election in 2013, Kumari is quickly becoming one of Rajasthan’s most prominent BJP leaders.
Raje, Kumari, Kirodi Lal Meena, Balak Nath, and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were among the individuals rumored to be leading candidates for the highly sought position. But much like in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, the BJP surprised everyone by appointing Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA, as the state’s new chief minister.

The two deputy chief ministers who have been chosen are Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa. “I don’t comment on such things. All of us have worked together. She was there too, I received her blessings too,” Kumari said when a journalist asked about speculation of a strife with Vasundhara Raje.
“PM Narendra Modi cares for women and policies have been framed by keeping them in focus. Today, trust has been shown in me. So, I would like to thank PM Modi, the party’s national president, Home Minister, Defence Minister, state president, all incharges and everyone else for considering me eligible for this and giving me this responsibility…I am grateful and happy to have received this opportunity. We will work together,” she added.
Prem Chand Bairwa said: “It can happen only in BJP where an ordinary party worker is given such a responsibility. I will work for the upliftment of Dalits and all other sections of the society.” Vasudev Devnani was named by the party as the next speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly.
“I express gratitude to the central and state leaderships that expressed faith in me and gave me a new responsibility. I will shoulder this to the best of my abilities under the guidance of all senior leaders. Together, we will take forward the idea and tradition of Rajasthan,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his gratitude to Raje for putting his name up to the BJP legislative party. The BJP hopes to secure support from Brahmin, Rajput, and Dalit groups in the upcoming general elections of 2024 by appointing them.
