‘Don’t Compare Your Child With Another’: PM Modi At ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that students should compete with themselves rather than with others and cautioned parents against using their child’s report card as their own visiting card.

The prime minister stated that while challenges and competition can serve as sources of motivation in life, healthy competition is also necessary while interacting with educators, parents, and kids as part of his yearly “Pariksha Pe Charcha” event.

“You must not compare one child with another as that can be detrimental to their future. Some parents treat their children’s report card as their visiting card, this is not good,” he said.

The prime minister clarified that there are three different sources of stress for students: parental, peer, and self-inflicted.

“At times children take pressure on themselves that they are not performing up to the mark. I suggest that you should set small goals during preparation and gradually improve your performance, this way you will be completely ready before the exams,” he said.

Considering students to be the architects of India’s future, Modi compared the Pariksha Pe Charcha program to an exam that he would have to take.

Speaking to students before exams in the seventh edition of his outreach program, he claimed that students today are more creative than ever.

“Our students will shape our future,” Modi said.

For the past six years, Pariksha Pe Charcha, an initiative of the Ministry of Education, has involved teachers, parents, and students. The event this year took place at the Bharat Mandapam in a town hall style. Winners of the Kala Utsav and two students and a teacher from each state and Union Territory have been invited.
