Air India swiftly implemented the DGCA’s order to remove three senior crew rostering officials.
The aviation regulator issued the order over serious crew scheduling violations, holding the officials directly responsible.
DGCA flags systemic failures in crew scheduling
In its notice, the DGCA flagged unauthorised crew pairings, licensing violations, and failure to meet flight crew recency norms.
It described the situation as a ‘systemic failure’ in Air India’s scheduling and supervisory procedures.
The DGCA said the three officials repeatedly erred in crew rostering and told Air India to start disciplinary action within ten days.
COO takes over interim oversight of operations centre
An Air India spokesperson said the airline complied with the directive, and the COO now directly oversees the IOCC.
“Air India is committed to ensuring total adherence to safety protocols and standard practices,” the spokesperson added.
Air India faces growing scrutiny after the AI 171 Dreamliner crash killed at least 270 people, including 241 passengers and crew.
The accident has raised questions about operational safety and oversight within the airline.
Aviation union demands CBI probe into crew terminations
Amid the crisis, the Aviation Industry Employees’ Guild (AIEG) has demanded a CBI probe into the sacking of two cabin crew members.
George Abraham said Air India fired two crew for reporting a Dreamliner fault and pressured them to alter statements.
“This is a very serious matter, and we have demanded a CBI probe into the sacking of the two crew members,” Abraham told IANS.
