Delhi Police Tightens Security Ahead Of New Year Celebrations

As New Delhi welcomes the New Year, the city police have implemented extensive security measures to ensure smooth celebrations, effective crowd management, and public safety.

Delhi Police Beefs Up Security

DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan announced that additional patrolling and specialized units are deployed across key areas to maintain law and order.

Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) are actively securing 15 critical points, with 38 Police Control Room (PCR) vans strategically placed to respond rapidly during emergencies. Over 10,000 officers will be on duty, with paramilitary forces securing city borders to prevent illegal activities.

“Security checkpoints equipped with breath analyzers are set up at 21 strategic locations to curb drunk driving and regulate traffic,” Chauhan said. To further tighten vigilance, 70 pickets fortified with barricades and breath analyzers are actively monitoring traffic and identifying suspicious movements.

Surveillance Areas

Celebration hotspots such as Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, India Gate, and popular malls and markets are under heightened security. A total of 31 key locations, including 15 malls, motels, and cinema halls, are being strictly monitored.

Eight prominent hotels in the city are also under intensified surveillance.

Special vehicles fitted with CCTV cameras and advanced surveillance tools have been deployed for enhanced patrolling and monitoring. Bus stops, critical road routes, and other public gathering areas are under the watchful eyes of security personnel, including 40 motorcycle patrol teams and an equal number of foot patrol teams.

Traffic Control Measures

Traffic management remains a top priority to prevent congestion and dangerous driving behaviors. The Delhi Traffic Police have deployed around 2,500 personnel to oversee smooth vehicular movement.

Approximately 250 teams will conduct checks to curb drunk driving. Parking restrictions are in place, with designated parking areas at Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House available on a first-come, first-served basis. Unauthorized vehicles parked in restricted zones will face towing and penalties.

For ease of travel, the DMRC will prohibit exits from the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station after 9 p.m. Entry will remain open until the last train departs.

The Delhi Police aim to ensure a joyful and safe New Year celebration while maintaining zero tolerance for law violations. Officers will focus on preventing dangerous activities such as motorcycle stunts and reckless driving. Post 8 p.m., strict traffic control measures will remain in effect until celebrations conclude well after midnight.
