Delhi High Court Upholds Candidature Of Tattooed Delhi Police Recruit

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has ruled that a faded tattoo will not disqualify Deepak Yadav from joining the Delhi Police. Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Girish Kathpalia upheld the Central Administrative Tribunal’s (CAT) decision to keep Yadav’s candidature for the constable post.

Earlier, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) declared Yadav ineligible after a medical examination showed the fading color of a tattoo on his right forearm. The High Court found that Yadav had already started removing the tattoo by that time. The court observed that the tattoo was not visible to the naked eye, leaving only a faint mark.

The court stated that such faint marks are natural and should not lead to disqualification. It confirmed that Yadav met all other eligibility criteria. The court explained that candidates with objectionable tattoos usually receive a deadline to remove them. Failure to do so can result in rejection.

Yadav underwent a medical examination on January 20 and a Review Medical Board examination on January 22, 2024. He was undergoing tattoo removal surgery during this period, which caused the tattoo to appear faded. The court noted that Yadav did not get a chance to appear before the Review Medical Board after his tattoo removal.

The High Court directed the Delhi Police to allow Yadav to join the next training batch within a week, as the vacancies have not been filled yet.
