Delhi High Court
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has issued notices to the Delhi government and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after hearing a petition challenging restrictions on e-meeting and telephone facilities for prisoners involved in terrorism and heinous crimes. Justice Sanjeev Narula is presiding over the case.
In April, jail authorities issued a circular requiring a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the relevant investigation agency before granting these prisoners access to e-meetings and phone calls. The circular affects prisoners charged under laws related to crimes against the state, terrorist activities, and other serious offenses.
Masassong, accused of providing funds to terrorists, has challenged the circular. He argues that the communication facilities, which he had previously used to contact his minor children, have been unfairly revoked. Masassong claims this is a violation of jail rules and his fundamental rights, especially given his elderly parents’ poor health.
The court has asked the Delhi government and NIA to respond to the petition, marking the beginning of a legal review of these restrictions.
