2 Soldiers Martyred In Ongoing Gunfight With Terrorists In J&K

Two soldiers lost their lives during a fierce gunbattle with terrorists in the Ahlan Gadole area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district earlier today. The encounter, which also left another soldier and two civilians injured, began in the afternoon as security forces carried out an anti-terror operation in the Kokernag subdivision’s dense forest.

The terrorists ambushed the army patrol, prompting a swift response from the troops, which included elite paratroopers from the army’s special forces. The operation aims to neutralize the terrorists, who are believed to be foreign nationals.

Today’s clash marks the second significant encounter in Kokernag within the past year. In September 2023, a gunbattle in the same region claimed the lives of a Commanding Officer, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police.

The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Two civilians have also been reported injured due to indiscriminate, desperate, and reckless firing by terrorists in the ongoing operation; they have been provided immediate medical aid and evacuated further. Operations are under progress.”

Additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area as security forces work to flush out the remaining terrorists, believed to be entrenched in the Ahlan Gadole forests.
