A mob attacked the Superintendent of Police in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Friday. The mob attacked the SP to protest the deployment of Central forces in the district, as reported. The officials also added that police personnel were injured in the attack.
With this, the photos of the SP with injuries on the forehead went viral on social media, however, there was no official confirmation. For the unversed, the tension started brewing after the Central forces took possession of some “community bunkers” in the Saibol village bordering the Imphal East district.
The locals wanted the district police to remove the Centralk forces from the area.
Manipur Violence As Mob Attacks SP’s Office
The protestors marched up to the SP’s office and attempted to steal it on Friday evening. Some protestors also tried to storm the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The video of the same has been circulating on the social media platform.
The police resistance led to the stone pelting, which injured a few people. Moreover, the vehicles at the SP’s office were damaged.
Furthermore, a police statement late on Friday night said, “Security Forces retaliated against the mob and resorted to the use of adequate force to disperse the mob and the situation was brought under control. In this incident, Manoj Prabhakar, SP Kangpokpi District, sustained injuries and some vehicles were also damaged. The SP has received necessary medical treatment and is fine now and presently leading the joint security forces in tackling the situation.”
