Condoms in Makeup Boxes Given As ‘Gifts’ In Government-Sponsored Mass Wedding In MP

Indore: In tribal dominated Jhabua district of MP, mass wedding of 292 women was organized on Monday under the Kanya Vivah Yojna. The couples were given makeup boxes by government which had the National Health Mission stickers on the top of the cover. The makeup box opening lid also had planning logo with the message ‘Nai Pahel Kit’ (new initiative kit).

Opposition takes a dig at government

When the couples opened the gifted makeup box, they were completely shocked after seeing that it had contraceptives. The pills were a supply from the government of India. After this, the opposition has taken a dig at government for having such an idea of family planning awareness.

Administration has not received any complaint

When Jhabua collector Tanvi Hooda was asked about the matter she said, “Condoms and contraceptive pills were not kept in makeup box but were given separately to the couples.” She further added that the administration has till not received any complaint in the matter.

Opposition’s Remarks

However the leading opposition party Congress has critisized the government. The MP Youth Congress chief Vikrant Bhuria said, “There’s a time and a place for everything. We support initiatives to promote family planning but distributing condoms and contraceptive pills at such a mass wedding is no good.
