A serious health scare gripped the residents of Supertech Eco Village 2 in Greater Noida, where over 200 individuals, including many children and elderly, fell ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water.
The incident surfaced on Monday as numerous residents reported symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain.
Some affected residents experienced discomfort throughout the day, with several immediately hospitalized.
Over 50 individuals were reported to have severe health issues, with around 10 children currently under medical care.
A resident shared that he began feeling uneasy after drinking water upon returning home from work at 9 PM.
“It was clear something was wrong with the water,” he said.
Another resident recounted how his children fell ill with symptoms of vomiting and dysentery, initially thinking it was due to food consumed outside.
“My children fell sick and complained of vomiting and dysentery. At first, I thought they must have eaten something outside. But when I spoke to other people in the society, they were also facing similar health issues,” he stated.
In response to the rising complaints, the society’s maintenance team promptly inspected the water tanks and collected samples for testing.
Preliminary findings indicate that 35-40 people initially reported falling ill after consuming the contaminated water.
A senior official from Bisrakh police station later confirmed that a chemical used during the water tank cleaning process inadvertently tainted the water supply, causing the contamination.
Officials conducted immediate on-site investigations, and those affected received first aid.
Authorities have alerted the Health Department for further intervention.
The outbreak primarily impacted residents of towers C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7, each containing 20 floors and over 160 flats. Many residents reported symptoms including stomach aches, diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever.
A similar incident occurred on 4 May when around 400 residents of Ghaziabad’s Saya Gold Avenue Society fell ill after drinking contaminated water, experiencing symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, and fever.
Authorities are now working to ensure the safety of the water supply in the affected area to prevent further health hazards.
