Congress To Launch ‘Nyay Yatra’ In Delhi, Targets BJP And AAP Governments

The Congress party is set to embark on a ‘Nyay Yatra’ in Delhi, starting on October 23 and concluding on November 28. The yatra will be held in four phases to coincide with the festive season in India. There is speculation that senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, may participate.

Four Phases of the Yatra

The first phase will run from October 23 to October 28, followed by the second phase from November 4 to November 10. The third phase will take place between November 12 and November 18, and the final phase will be held from November 20 to November 28. During the yatra, the Congress plans to highlight what it calls the failures of the BJP’s three-time elected MPs in Delhi, along with the challenges posed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

Comparisons with Sheila Dikshit’s Tenure

A major focus will be on contrasting the current situation in Delhi with the development seen during the tenure of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. The Congress will emphasize the ongoing disputes between the Modi-led central government, the Lieutenant Governor (LG), and the AAP-led Delhi government. Key issues like the liquor policy scandal, corruption, and anti-development policies will be highlighted, with the party accusing the AAP government of stalling progress in the capital.

The Congress also plans to hold a dozen exhibitions during the yatra to underscore these failures. The exhibitions will feature specific case studies to make the issues more relatable to the public. Through this campaign, Congress aims to regain political ground in Delhi, where it has been struggling to compete with both the BJP and AAP since the 2013 defeat of Sheila Dikshit.

With assembly elections in Delhi expected early next year, the Congress is keen to reestablish itself as a key contender. However, if necessary, the Election Commission may hold the polls sooner. Arvind Kejriwal, after resigning as Delhi’s Chief Minister, had earlier demanded elections in November alongside the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly elections.
