Ahead of the sixth and seventh Phases of Lok Sabha polls, Congress is set to reach women with the plans in place. Congress is to distribute over 40 lakh Pamphlets focused on its proposed scheme, ‘Mahalakshmi’.

According to the sources, Congress is set to distribute more than 40 lakh pamphlets with the key focus on its proposed scheme ‘Mahalakshmi’ in poll-bound constituencies across the country.

In the proposed ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme, Congress guarantees that it will give Rs 1 lakh to the women of poor families every year. Mahalakshmi scheme is among the 5 major guarantees of Congress.

At a public meeting earlier, talking about the scheme, Gandhi had said that on July 1, when poor women will check their bank accounts, they will find an amount of 8,500 credited to their accounts. He went on to say that this will happen on the first of every month.

Regarding the proposal and idea of the scheme, sources say that during the Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, several women met Rahul Gandhi and shared their grievances with him, and after that, the congress came up with the scheme.

“The Congress resolves to launch a Mahalakshmi scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family as an unconditional cash transfer. The poor will be identified among the families at the bottom of the income pyramid,” Congress’ manifesto.

In a video message, released last week, Sonia Gandhi said that the women of the country are going through a hard time in the wake of a ‘severe crisis’ and the Congress’ proposed ‘Mahalakshmi’ scheme for them will help change their lives.

The 18 Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place in 7 phases. The remaining two phases will take place on 25 May and 1 June. The result of the election is to be declared on 4 June.
