In Kolkata, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhury questioned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s decision to attend a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu during the G20 meeting in New Delhi. Choudhury raised concerns about whether this would weaken her stance against the Narendra Modi government and speculated on other reasons for her attendance.
In response, the Trinamool Congress defended Banerjee, emphasizing her role in the non-BJP bloc INDIA and stating that Choudhury should not lecture her on administrative protocols. They highlighted that Banerjee attended the dinner with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, despite many non-BJP Chief Ministers refraining from attending.
Mr. Choudhury questioned the motives behind Banerjee’s attendance and wondered if there were undisclosed reasons for her participation. In response, Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen asserted Banerjee’s commitment and autonomy in deciding when to attend such events.
The BJP’s West Bengal spokesperson, Samik Bhattacharya, accused the Congress and CPIM of aligning with the Trinamool in Delhi, which he claimed betrayed the people of the state, labeling them as “victims of the Trinamool’s terror.” He argued that the BJP was the party standing against corruption in the Trinamool’s leadership and supporting the people of Bengal.
Banerjee’s flight was initially scheduled for Saturday but was rescheduled to Friday afternoon due to flight movement regulations in the national capital, as confirmed by officials.
