CM Rekha Gupta Rallies Citizens To Make Delhi ‘Garbage-Free’ This August

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday urged residents to actively take part in the city’s special cleanliness campaign, emphasising that the mission to make the national capital clean and beautiful rests on shared responsibility.

During her visit to Timarpur, the Chief Minister said, “I hope every individual will understand the collective responsibility of ‘Hamari Dilli, Hamari Jimmewari’ and clean the city near his or her location.”

Joined by local legislator SP Khatri and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, CM Gupta toured a slum cluster and stated that such efforts could transform Delhi into a ‘clean, green and better’ city.

Expressing satisfaction with the scale of the ongoing campaign, she noted that thousands of clean-up activities are currently underway, with enthusiastic participation from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), religious groups, social organisations, and elected representatives.

She also praised individual acts of civic responsibility, citing the example of a young man who voluntarily cleans bus queue shelters each morning and shares his work on social media.

The Delhi government launched the month-long ‘Delhi’s Freedom from Garbage – Cleanliness Drive’ on 1 August as part of Independence Day celebrations.

Weekly Events and Citizen Engagement

The Chief Minister announced that special events under this campaign will take place every Saturday and Sunday throughout August.

To encourage community involvement, an online portal has launched where residents can upload ‘before and after’ pictures of cleaned areas, showcasing their contributions.

CM Gupta added that all departments of the Delhi government are working together to ensure the campaign’s success.

The drive also involves RWAs, market associations, schools, colleges, and various institutions.

Stating that August marks the spirit of India’s independence, CM Gupta said the goal this year is to achieve ‘freedom from garbage’ across the city.

She concluded by reaffirming that with strong public engagement and cross-departmental coordination, the campaign would make a tangible impact, one that leaves Delhi residents truly feeling the capital has been transformed.

The Chief Minister said efforts focus on cleaning schools, government buildings, and hospitals, especially by clearing long-ignored waste and clutter.
