Centre Issues LPG Allocation Guidelines To Ensure Uninterrupted Supply Across India

The Government of India has issued a directive to Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, outlining a comprehensive framework for the allocation and supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

The communication sets clear expectations for maintaining efficiency and reliability in LPG distribution across the country.

The Centre has stressed the importance of ensuring adequate and uninterrupted LPG availability across regions. It has placed particular emphasis on meeting the needs of domestic consumers and priority sectors, while ensuring that supply systems remain responsive to seasonal and regional demand variations.

State governments have been urged to work closely with oil marketing companies (OMCs) to streamline logistics and strengthen supply chains. The directive highlights the need to prevent shortages and maintain sufficient buffer stocks to address any sudden surge in demand.

The communication underscores the importance of strict monitoring of LPG distribution channels.

States have been advised to take proactive steps to prevent diversion, hoarding, and black marketing of LPG cylinders, ensuring fair access for all consumers.

Focus on Ujjwala Beneficiaries

Special attention has been directed towards beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

The Centre has called on states to ensure that economically weaker households continue to receive timely LPG supplies. It has also encouraged awareness initiatives so that all eligible beneficiaries can access their entitlements without difficulty.

The letter has urged states to review and enhance infrastructure, including storage facilities, bottling plants, and last-mile delivery systems.

Strengthening these components is considered essential for maintaining supply stability and improving service efficiency.

State authorities have also been encouraged to implement real-time monitoring systems and robust grievance redressal mechanisms. These measures are expected to help address consumer complaints swiftly and improve overall service delivery standards.

The Centre has concluded by emphasising the shared responsibility of the Union government, state administrations, and OMCs in ensuring LPG availability, affordability, and accessibility.

These coordinated efforts are vital to sustaining LPG as a key household fuel and supporting energy security across India.
