Centre Approves Bill To Establish A National Research Foundation

Union minister Anurag Thakur stated that the cabinet adopted a bill on Wednesday to establish the National Research Foundation, a new funding agency to strengthen the country’s research capacity.

Mr. Thakur further said that the National Research Foundation Bill would be introduced in Parliament and the Science and Engineering Research Board Act, 2008 would be repealed.

“The Union Cabinet approved a proposal to introduce the National Research Foundation (NRF) Bill, 2023, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”, Mr. Thakur told the media.

“The NRF will be controlled by a governing board consisting of 15 to 25 distinguished researchers and professionals. The Prime Minister will chair the governing board”, he added.
