For many Delhi parents, Saturday turned into a nightmare as schools reported bomb threats and evacuated children. With exams being conducted in some institutions, the fear and confusion were even more overwhelming.
According to Delhi Fire Services, the schools that received threats included Delhi Public School in Dwarka, Krishna Model Public School and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya.
Around the same time, a few Najafgarh schools also got such warnings.
Hoax Calls Rattle Capital
Responding without delay, police teams, flanked by bomb disposal squads, canine handlers, and fire officers, rushed to the institutions.
Children and staff were swiftly evacuated from classrooms to designated safe areas as intensive searches were conducted on the grounds.
No suspicious items have emerged so far, shifting the focus from evacuation to investigation.
Authorities are now tracing the source of the messages to establish whether the threats reflect a wider design.
Officials admitted that the repeated nature of these hoax calls has become a matter of serious concern.
This isn’t new; similar hoaxes have happened recently. Back on September 13, the Taj Palace Hotel in Chanakyapuri was searched after someone emailed saying 16 bombs were planted there.
Nothing turned up, and the claim was written off. Just days earlier, on September 9, hoax threats were sent to the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Maulana Azad Medical College, warning that explosives would detonate at fixed times.
Both claims turned out to be baseless after thorough checks. August also saw multiple incidents.
On August 28, over 20 colleges received threatening messages, while on August 21, six schools were evacuated following similar calls. In each case, searches yielded nothing.
The frustration among parents and teachers is mounting as each false alarm breeds fear and derails the academic calendar.
Security agencies, meanwhile, have assured that monitoring is being reinforced to unmask those orchestrating the hoaxes.
