President Murmu To Perform Ancestral Rituals At Vishnupad Temple In Gaya Today

President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit Gaya today to perform ancestral rites at the revered Vishnupad Temple. She will offer ‘Pind Daan’ and ‘Tarpan’, traditional Hindu rituals conducted for the peace and salvation of departed souls.

Gaya holds deep religious significance in Hindu tradition, particularly during the ongoing Pitru Paksha period, and draws devotees from across the country.

The Vishnupad Temple is situated on the banks of the Falgu River. It remains one of the holiest sites for performing these ancestral ceremonies.

Travel and Security Arrangements

According to an official statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President will travel from Gaya Airport to the temple via a specially-designated route. The route will pass Gate No 5, a bypass, Narayani Bridge, and Bengali Ashram. She will return to the airport following the same path.

The Gaya district administration, along with local police, has implemented a comprehensive security and traffic management plan to ensure a smooth visit.

Authorities have temporarily closed several roads around the temple and across the city. The affected routes include Domuhan to Sikariya Mod, Gate No 5 to City Public School, and Chand Chaura to Bengali Ashram.

Authorities have arranged alternate routes for public convenience. One of the routes is the Bodh Gaya–Four Lane route. It connects Gulharia Chak Mod, Chakand railway crossing, Kandi Nawada, Kukra Mod, Mehta Petrol Pump, and City Public School.

Authorities have installed drop gates near the temple, allowing visitors to continue on foot from designated points. Authorities have assured that all precautions are in place, maintaining what they describe as a ‘not even a bird can fly’ level of security to protect the President and ensure smooth passage for pilgrims.

This visit underscores the importance of Gaya as a centre for ancestral rituals and the President’s commitment to honouring cultural and religious traditions. Her participation in these rites will highlight the spiritual heritage of the region.
