Delivering a forceful Independence Day speech from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning to Pakistan, making it clear that India would no longer tolerate nuclear intimidation.
“Blood and water won’t flow together,” PM Modi declared, in reference to both the Indus Waters Treaty and India’s uncompromising stance on cross-border terrorism.
Marking his 12th consecutive Independence Day address, the Prime Minister spoke against the backdrop of heightened patriotic fervour as the nation celebrated its 79th year of independence.
The Prime Minister hoisted the National Flag and paid tribute to the Armed Forces, with particular praise for the success of Operation Sindoor, India’s military retaliation to the 22 April Pahalgam terror attack.
He stressed that no one should mistake India’s restraint for weakness.
“India has decided it will not fall for nuclear threats anymore. Our Armed Forces have punished the masters of terror beyond their imagination,” he said, alluding to deep strikes under Operation Sindoor.
Criticising the Indus Waters Treaty as ‘unjust and unreasonable’, PM Modi suggested that India could review its commitments if Pakistan continues to harbour terrorism.
His statement that ‘blood and water cannot flow together’ was widely interpreted as a signal of potential diplomatic and strategic shifts.
The Red Fort ceremony included symbolic gestures such as floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and an aerial display by Indian Air Force helicopters showering petals over the venue.
One helicopter carried the Tricolour, while another displayed the Operation Sindoor flag, underlining the mission’s national importance.
The Prime Minister’s address also highlighted the theme of ‘Naya Bharat’ and reiterated the government’s ambition of achieving a developed India — ‘Viksit Bharat’ — by 2047.
“This festival of freedom is a festival of 140 crore resolutions,” PM Modi noted, calling on citizens to work together to build a stronger, self-reliant nation.
As India enters its 79th year of independence, the Prime Minister declared from the Red Fort that the nation will safeguard its security, sovereignty, and honour at all costs.
